THOMAS EDWARD TRINDER
alias "TOMMY TRINDER"
Thomas Edward Trinder, the son of Thomas Henry Trinder (originaly from Shilton, Oxon. Click here to see his details) was born on 24 March 1909 at 25 Wellfield Road, Streatham, London.
I am informed that there is a Blue Plaque honouring this event on the outside wall of the house.
After making his stage debut at the age of 12, He went on to make his name in music halls across the country, and his comedy career spanned 60 years as he moved on to films, television and radio.
Tommy Trinder hosted Sunday Night at the London Palladium, and when it aired for the first time on 25th September 1955, it featured among its stars the legendary Lancashire Lass, Gracie Fields, and from the USA current singing sensation Guy Mitchell. Tommy had been a regular at the Palladium since 1941 with the review Gangway, and was without doubt one of the top comics of the day.

This is an early photo of Tommy and his sister Jennie Bertha
The most famous story about Tommy was of the time he was presented to King George V1, and reminded his Royal Highness that the last time he had performed before him, he was second on the bill and the King was still Duke of York. "You've climbed very high since then," said the King. "You haven't done so bad yourself, sir!" was Tommy's reply. Tommy was loved by his audience and would always tell them how fortunate they were to see him perform with his good-natured catch phrase "you lucky people". On one occasion when a power failure blacked out the ITV network, Trinder ad-libbed for two hours. His first words when the picture was restored were "Welcome to Monday morning at the London Palladium". He was awarded the CBE in 1975.
He and his wife Tonie, a former dancer moved to Walton area in Surrey after he came to make a film there around the 1950's.
Prior to that he lived in Fulham, south west London.

He went on to become Chairman of Fulham football club for 26 years and was later made life president, he also had a rather more unconventional way of getting into the ground as a boy.
He used to sneak into the riverside ground when the Thames was at low tide and later joked: "In those days I never looked at the fixture list. My guide was a timetable of the tides!"
